The short version
You can use most of this app without an account. If you create one, we store your name and email so your notes and subscription follow you between devices. The people you study with β their names, phone numbers and addresses β never leave your device. Your Bible questions are sent to an AI provider to be answered, but we do not keep them.
1. What we store on our servers
Without an account we store only a randomly generated device identifier, used to remember your settings and count your free monthly AI usage. If you create an account we also store:
- Your name and email address, and your password stored only as a one-way hash β never as text we can read.
- Optional details you type into your profile: congregation name, your role in the congregation, language and time zone.
- What you save in the app: study notes, ministry records (hours, placements, return visits), talk assignments and convention notes.
- Counters that make the free tier work: AI answers used this month, streak days, referrals and trial status.
- If you subscribe: your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, and whether the subscription is active. We never see or store your card details.
- If you turn on reminders: the notification address your browser issues, so we can send the daily text and the weekly meeting reminder.
- If you send feedback: your message, the page you were on, and the email address you chose to leave so we can tell you when it is fixed.
2. What never leaves your device
The Interested Persons list β the names, phone numbers, addresses and visit notes of the people you study with β is stored only in your browser on your own device. It is never sent to our servers and we cannot see it. If you clear your browser data or lose the device, that list is gone, and we cannot recover it for you.
Your saved AI answers, your theme and language choice, and your personal study profile are also kept on your device.
3. What we do not keep
- The questions you ask the AI assistant are sent to be answered and are not saved on our servers.
- When you talk to Abigail, your voice is streamed live to the speech provider and back. We do not record or store the audio.
- We never store your payment card details. Stripe handles payment entirely.
4. Who else receives your data
To make the app work we pass some data to these companies. They are the only ones.
- Moonshot AI (Kimi) β receives the Bible questions you type, along with any study profile you filled in, in order to write an answer. Their servers are in China.
- Google β receives your microphone audio, live, while you are talking to Abigail.
- OpenAI and ElevenLabs β receive the text you ask the app to read aloud, in order to speak it.
- fal.ai β receives the descriptions you type when generating stationery or name-tag artwork.
- Stripe β handles subscription payments if you choose to upgrade.
- PostHog β usage analytics. Before you sign up this is not tied to you. After you sign up we send PostHog your email address so that visits from your different devices count as one person. If you would rather that did not happen, use the app without an account.
- Our email provider β sends account emails, the occasional message about your free month, and replies about feedback you sent.
- jw.org and the Watchtower Online Library β the daily text, meeting material and Bible text are fetched by our server, not by your browser, so your device and address are not passed to them.
5. Children
This app is for anyone studying the Bible, including families. We do not ask for a date of birth and we do not knowingly seek personal information from children. The app can be used fully without an account.
6. Deleting your data
You can delete your account from the Account and Plans screen. It asks for your password, because a device alone should never be enough to destroy an account.
Deleting cancels any active subscription, then removes your account, study notes, ministry records, talk assignments and notification settings. Feedback tickets are kept because they document faults in the app, but your name and account are detached from them first.
Anything held only on your device is removed by clearing your browser data for this site.
7. This is an independent tool
JW-Ai.org is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania or any of its affiliates.
